Aaron Sim

BIO

Aaron Sim is an R&B singer and songwriter based in Miami, Florida.  His sound is reminiscent of the feel good music of the 1970’s.  He is known for his cool swagger and way with words.

Of Dominican descent and born in Leavenworth, Kansas, Aaron moved to the “Crescent City” of New Orleans when he was ten years old.  Growing up, two themes ran through Aaron’s life:  music and athletics.  His young world was filled with the sounds of Brian McKnight, Boys II Men, Maxwell, and Musiq Soulchild.  His mother, a significant force in his life, sang in the church choir and ran track in college.  Aaron followed in her footsteps by attending the University of Kansas, where he landed a football scholarship.  His passion for writing began in high school with poetry, and grew to lyrics and melody in college.  He started performing his music by stepping up to “open mic’s” whenever he could.  An ankle injury forced Aaron to focus less on football and more on music, and he started going to more and more concerts and trying out for singing contests.  Eventually, he returned home to New Orleans, registered at Nicholls State, and worked on his musical chops at as many as five “open mic” nights a week.

In August of 2005, Aaron found himself in New Orleans at the same time as an unwelcome guest named Katrina.  While he was fortunate to ride out the storm itself in a hotel that his mother worked for, his family lost their house.  The promises of better opportunities lead him and his family to move to Atlanta, and later, South Florida.  Over the next year, Aaron auditioned for the television shows “Making The Band” and “American Idol”.  He made it past the first round of auditions for Idol, but, ironically, was told his voice was “too professional”, and didn’t make it any further.  In 2007, he decided to finish his education and enrolled at Florida Atlantic University, studying music business.  He graduated in 2009.
